A Little Trail Runner is born
The story behind my 2 year quest to create a children's poem book.
Have you ever seen something being done (a work of art, business, personal challenge, etc.) and thought “I could do that?”
I had that thought 2 years ago after reading Joe Vicker’s Salty Sleepy Surfery Rhymes.
But unlike most thoughts, which are random and fleeting, this one kept coming back to me. So I acted on it and 2 years later we (my wife Jordan and I) are almost ready to release Little Trail Runner, Trail Tales & Restful Rhymes, into the wild.
How did you get started?
My son Miles was born March 2023. If you’re a parent then you know your house quickly fills up with kid stuff. And books. LOTS and LOTS of books.
We quickly developed a reading habit to anchor our son’s bedtime routine. And as I read stories upon stories to Miles, something was missing. There were no books on our bookshelf about running. Running (namely trail running) is something I love dearly. And at the time I really missed it.
So I started writing poems about why I love trail running — getting out into nature, pushing past your limits, and connecting with friends.
I wrote for all of the running moms and dads who want a little bedtime reminder of the feeling they get from pursuing their passion.
And most importantly, I wrote for my son and future generations, using language and concepts easy enough to grasp yet meaningful enough to be read over and over again.
All told, I wrote 25 short, self-contained poems. Different from your average children’s book yet applicable to “trail tikes” of all ages.

So proud of you two for getting this book done!! Can't wait to have this in my office on display:)
So excited for the release, Jonathan! Congrats to you and Jordan!
