Iâm on a mission to put the âPersonalâ back into Personal Development
Shower thoughtđż: Why itâs important to reflect on your accomplishments
âJon likes to power throughââŠ
Thatâs what was said recently in passing. Iâm well-known as a runner and hiker. A friend and I were reminiscing on a long section hike in the Pisgah National Forest. We hiked 32 miles that day. And yes, we did power through.
Reflection is stopping to âsoak in the viewsâ.
Iâve been planning my Q3 goals the last few weeks of July (my Q3 runs Aug-Oct). This is a process Iâve undergone 6 times in the last 2 years.
I use the 12-week year system.
I plan my weeks out on paper.
I track my quarterly goals weekly.
But, during planning, this comment stuck with me. Why was I in such a hurry to âget to Q3â? Was I just powering through â or have I stopped for enough time to truly âsoak in the viewsâ?
Remembering big problems that are now small.
Itâs funny what 12 weeks will do for your perspective. In my career, Iâve accomplished so much in the last quarter and half. Iâve grown as a seller, taken on new responsibility, and been faced with many first time challenges.
Iâve both lost and won deals, and in many ways laugh at the stress I placed on myself in the moment.
Same goes for my personal life. Conflict I had with Jordan now seems so trite and unnecessary. The fears we both placed on Miles returning to daycare, anatomy scans for our second child, and other parenting âcrisesâ are gone.
What once were âbig problemsâ are now small⊠which begs the question â Wereâ they ever big problems at all?
Reflection is your solution to burnout
Burnout is real.. and prevalent.
Itâs that exhaustion we all face when doing too much, for too long, at too high of an intensity. Weâre not machines and shouldnât act as such.
Reflection is our moment to recharge. Not to lose your flame, but gather some more kindling and remember what makes your flame burn in the first place.
The summer marks the halfway point for most.
Celebrate your wins.
Analyze your losses.
Remember your big problems that are now small.
And tap back into the fuel that keeps you going.
To another 12-weeks
â Keep moving forward.
THANK YOU for making it to the end!

I remember a saying from our Primerica days " People dont plan to fail , they fail to plan" , but a plan without action is just stupid . Just Do It !!"
I'm sure you remember the motivational tapes playing loudly on our road trips!
Enjoy all your successes Jonathan and thank you for motivating us to be better also!:)
I write a lot of daily to-do lists but goals somehow swirl around in my head and exhaust my brain . I like the 12 week plan. :)
