I’m on a mission to put the “Personal” back into Personal Development
Shower thought🚿: The Eye of the Storm.
I’ve lived most of my life in Florida — “The Sunshine State”. Florida is synonymous with Disney World, retirees, and yes, hurricanes.
Big, destructive, hurricanes.
Hurricanes are unpredictable chaos. We do our best to prepare — stock up on canned goods, batteries, and gas; but in a hurricane you are truly beholden to the weather.
Direct hit.
The strangest and most surreal thing about a hurricane is the eye. The eye is the central core of a hurricane. It’s an area (typically 20-40 miles) of calm winds, little to no rain, and sometimes blue skies.
As a self-proclaimed “Florida-Man”, I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing this first hand. I can’t remember the specific hurricane (I think Wilma), where we experienced a direct hit. The storm battered our home. Windows were caving in, winds raged, and rain fell sideways like arrows striking our home.
I was young, but I remember a collective fear in our home.
Sh** was hitting the fan.
And then it stopped.
Being in it.
Moments prior, we were “in it”, experiencing the most destructive part of the storm as we approached the eyewall. Power was out, lights off, no communication and no sign of stopping.
It’s a terrifying feeling, sitting in the dark waiting… Waiting to see what will come of your home, property, and life. Fully out of control.
Then it stopped.
The sky suddenly cleared.
Everyone in our home breathed a collective sigh of relief.
We knew this was the eye (we are Floridians after all), but we also knew we had made it halfway and survived.
Peace in the eye of the storm
The eye of a hurricane is a peaceful place. Surrounded by chaos on all sides, the eye is an oasis of calm.
Every (expert) will tell you not to go outside. And yes, please listen to the experts for your personal safety….
…But that day, we did go outside.
And we Danced in the Eye of the Storm.
Because we chose to LIVE amidst CHAOS.
We chose FULFILLMENT over FEAR.
Our exterior world is chaos.
Storm swirl around us daily.
The “newscycle” is never ending.
And our minds can be our greatest foes.
Embrace the storm.
Dance within it’s eyewall.
And most importantly, Keep Moving Forward.
THANK YOU for making it to the end!

Remembering that particular hurricane because we did go out and dance in the eye and I remember you running out with the video camera pretending to be the knowledgeable weather man:) :). "Peace in Chaos" is a good analogy you've attached to living in this world!!
