I’m on a mission to put the “Personal” back into Personal Development
Shower thought🚿: Let it take root.
I spend a lot of time outside with Miles nowadays.
Walking up and down our tree-lined street, taking in the world around us.
We live in an established downtown neighborhood. 50’s style homes that have seen a thing or two. And one both sides are large, mature oak trees that tower over our road and give us shade from the heat of Orlando.
Miles is drawn to the trees (Maybe because of how frequently I’ve put him in them in an attempt to make him a good climber). On one particular large oak, he recently noticed its extensive roots protruding from the grass.
And (like he always does) he had some questions. So I explained it the best way I could to a soon-to-be 2 year old —
“Those are roots. The trees need them to grow big and strong, collect nutrients, and not fall over. For a tree to grow way way up, it needs to grow strong roots down below.”
It’s almost the end of January. You might be wavering a bit on your resolutions (or maybe you’ve yet to start). Regardless of where you’re at, we can learn from the oak tree. Declaring a “new you” is a great first step, but real-change works slow.
So give yourself a break, always keep working, celebrate your wins — and let it take root.
THANK YOU for making it to the end!
